]]> On Friday, September 4th, the UN General Assembly adopted the “Correct the Map” resolution, led by Togo on behalf of the African Union.

Vote result: 164 votes for, 1 against (the United States), 6 abstentions including the UK and Australia.

Why was Africa shrunk?It all comes from the Mercator projection, created in 1569 by Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator to help sailors navigate. It preserves angles but distorts surface areas.
